Modern Classics - About the artist and his painting:

Kazimir Severinovich Malevich (1879 - 1935) was a painter born in Ukraine to parents of Polish origin and the main representative of Russian avant-garde. With his art, he became the founder of Suprematism (the first consistently nonrepresentational, abstract art) and thus paved the way for Constructivism (strictly nonrepresentational art). He is considered the inventor or nonrepresentational abstraction, i.e. the pictorial realization of non-objectivity. His artistic influence extends to the ‘De Stijl‘ and ‘Bauhaus‘ styles.

Suprematism. Abstract Composition (1915, oil on canvas, 31.5 x 31.5 in)

In Kazimir Malevich‘s art, non-objectivity is the highest principle. All forms used are derived from a square. He wanted to prove that an object has its own basis of being, independent of man, and can therefore be considered free from religion, art and science. Therefore, he reduces it to so few and distinct forms that it becomes objectless and thus free of subjective interpretation.

What does this resource contain?

  • Postcards (5.8 x 4.1 in)
  • Miniature (4.3 x 4.3 in)
  • Study painting (7.1 x 7.1 in)
  • Group work poster (35.4 x 35.4 in)

How can I make the group work poster?

  1. Print all template pages for the poster on white printing paper.
  2. Color or paint the individual sheets according to the template or your own imagination. Make sure that the dotted lines around the outside remain visible.
  3. Once dry, cut out the colored sheets along the dotted lines and sort them- each letter in a separate pile. Then sort them by number so that 1 is on top and 6 is on the bottom.
  4. Glue all ‘A’ sheets together. To do so, apply glue to the long tab on the right side of sheet A1 and glue sheet A2 on top of it so that its left edge is aligned with the solid line. Glue A3 to A2, A4 to A3 and so on until the first row is complete. Repeat this process with all rows.
  5. Now glue row B’s upper edge to the tab on the lower edge of row A. Then glue row C to row B and so on until all rows are glued together. Your poster is finished!
