About the artist and his work
Roy Lichtenstein (1923 - 1997) was, alongside Andy Warhol, one of the most famous pop art artists. Pop
art was a reaction to abstraction in art and it migrated toward the mundane everyday. In the 60s Roy Lichtenstein broke with the traditions of previous painting. He painted extreme comic images that looked as if they were taken from a printed comic book. The shapes were outlined with black lines and the areas were filled with even dots of color. These color dots are nothing more than halftone dots created during machine printing. To save ink, the halftone dots in the comic books are particularly widely spaced.
Move the ruler up 1/5 inch (5 mm) and draw another, parallel line. Repeat this process until the area is filled with thin pencil lines.
Using a cotton bud, make dots of colored paint along the line.
Continue to make dots along the second line and repeat this process until the whole area is covered in dots.
When the paint is completely dry, carefully erase the pencil lines.
Finally, paint the other areas with the colored paints of your choice.
